My husband works every other weekend and alternates between day shift and night shift on a monthly basis. On the weekends that he is off, I usually work Saturday mornings. It cuts down on the time we get to spend together, but it definitely helps out where the kiddo is concerned and not having to find a sitter every other weekend. It also means that I have to plan ahead when it comes to some of our projects; one thing is for sure. Some things are just easier and less of a drag when you have someone to help you with them. I try to keep a list of chores and projects that need to be done so we never have to sit around wondering what we should do (like that’ll EVER happen)! Our springs can get pretty wet around here so bigger projects, like tilling the garden or cleaning the chicken coop, can only be done when the weather cooperates. It’s nice to be able to enjoy sunny days by checking a project off the list and then enjoying some kickball in the front yard. Likewise, there are always little odds and ends around the house that need to be done at some point but are by no means a priority. Lately we’ve had a couple those rainy days that made a perfect time to get caught up inside the house. We got new picture frames on the walls. There’s a little less junk and confusion in the garage. Ed’s shop is cleaned up and ready for future woodworking projects and tractor repairs. Lando converted a plastic storage tote into a small brooder box for next month’s baby chicks. Our matching wine barrel tables are now both repaired and at home in the living room. Everyone who walks into my laundry room can now see the “This home is filled with endless love and laundry” sign that I’ve had for probably six months-finally hanging above the door. Yesterday was also a perfect time to thaw out and marinate a beef brisket to be slowly smoked and enjoyed alongside some tortilla chips and cream cheese topped homemade jalapeno jelly (made by my cousin and won by yours truly at the family Christmas Dirty Santa gift exchange). FYI- stay tuned this summer for my own attempts at making jalapeno pepper jelly! All in all, a productive weekend. Now off to enjoy some of the sunshine finally!
