As the month of February draws to a close I tend to get excited that spring is coming. I look forward to the hill turning green instead of the dingy brown that it’s been. I’m always a little disappointed too though because I realize there’s not much time left to get my winter “things” done….

Let It Snow!
Wowsers! This week has been cold. And white. The snow started coming down around maybe 7-8:00 on Sunday night and didn’t really stop until Monday about that same time. It was beautiful, and still is, because a full day’s worth of snow doesn’t just melt and disappear right away. It also got me out of…

Nine degrees. NINE! That’s what the thermometer in the kitchen window said this morning. Makes it really hard to get outside to feed. But…we’ve got three butt-headed boys that keep ripping the electric deicer out of their trough-enough so that they’ve broken off the ground prong and then another prong the other day. I’m not…
Read MoreIt’s Fall Y’all!!
This morning was nearly a perfect fall morning (except for the fact that this afternoon I’ll be at work…) We got up and started on our day like any other weekday morning. Lando got ready for school and helped me feed animals in exchange for me dropping him off at school rather than riding the…

Today is football day! The first full day of regular NFL games. I am a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan and got to enjoy opening night on the comfy couch watching their first win of the season. I let Lando stay up just a little later than he would usually get to so that he…

We won’t be preparing chickens for shows or finishing up 4-H projects. My stash of canned goods (the best of each batch) that I’d be entering for…
Read MoreSURPRISE!!
So, awhile back my husband mentioned building an incubator. I wasn’t sure how that would work. Then several weeks ago he sent me picture of our son building it. Apparently he gave him some direction (and safety supervision), but Lando built it all himself. He did the measurements, the cutting, the stapling down of the…

It’s definitely been a chaos, cows, and chickens week! Last Friday we picked up 20 chicks that we had special ordered from the local feedstore with a coworker of mine. These are meat chickens and will grow super quick so they won’t be around long. The plan was to get them Saturday afternoon but the…
Read MoreMealtimes
Lately I’ve been almost obsessed with mealtime. Whether it’s meal planning, baking bread, or delving into more old-fashioned cooking, I’ve been putting a lot more thought into our meals. It’s not just quarantine related either, although it may be a little more at the front of my mind because of everything going on around us….
Read MoreSourdough!
I’m baking my first ever loaf of sourdough bread today! Right now it’s on it’s second rise and so far so good. My husband and I both love the taste of sourdough bread but I’ve never attempted to bake it myself. What better time than now though, huh? Actually, this loaf has been in the…
