This morning was nearly a perfect fall morning (except for the fact that this afternoon I’ll be at work…) We got up and started on our day like any other weekday morning. Lando got ready for school and helped me feed animals in exchange for me dropping him off at school rather than riding the bus. Then, with a giant mug of coffee I braved a trip to Wal-Mart – even with limited cashiers, I was in and out in less than an hour. Once home I got a batch of little smokies started for our Potluck Friday lunch at work. (I admit that I’ve eaten a spoonful of them already as a morning snack…they just tasted too good when I checked them for warmness earlier.) Brand new socks on my feet. Brand new fluffy bath towels in the wash. The rain has finally stopped for the time being and it’s a bright sunshiney day outside. I ventured out to snap a couple of pics of the “girls” munching on hay with the beautiful fall trees in the background. Fall is my favorite time of year!
The only thing I dislike about fall is that some days we get an early sneak peek at winter and I’m not ready for that. I need time to enjoy some pumpkins and spiced chai lattes, the oranges and the reds of the trees, and the extra feelings of family and thankfulness that the season brings about. I can’t get myself to decorate the house for fall until October 1st because I don’t like to “see” fall and not “feel” it at the same time. Once the fall weather is here to stay then I can let myself enjoy bonfires, hoodies, and apple cider mimosas.
Goals vs Resolutions
A couple weeks ago I was telling a friend that I want to start making seasonal goals. Not just the yearly ones in January or the weekly ones I try to set for myself. Time goes by too quickly and before I know it fall will be over and won’t have accomplished any of those things I wrote down in January and forgotten by March. I tend to reflect back on the year more now than I do in December or January. Looking back at what I’ve accomplished and what I missed out on gives me new inspiration for the new year. I don’t like making New Year’s resolutions in the traditional sense because they seem cliché and never get accomplished. I want to make more of a list of GOALS for myself and for us as a family. Some may think resolutions and goals are kinda the same thing. I think setting a goal means you have something definite (positive) that you are working towards, while resolutions mean you’re resolving to change something about yourself or your life that you don’t necessarily like (negative). Maybe it’s just in the wording, but wording affects mindset, and mindset affects action.
So…My Fall Goals:
- Spend an afternoon raking leaves and jumping in them with Lando
- Try a pumpkin or squash based soup recipe
- Use my dehydrator for something besides jerky and herbs
- Start a new sourdough starter (because I killed the last one and I’m gonna need fresh bread for soup season 🙂
