It snowed this week! Like, legit, big snow flakes that stuck to the yard and our roof. The weather folks had been talking about it, but I don’t think anyone actually thought we’d get what we got. I know I expected a few flakes or flurries overnight on Tuesday, but nothing to worry about except that I needed to cover my onions (because I actually got them planted on time for once this year). But I wasn’t prepared to see giant flakes on my way home from work that day. Luckily I texted Ed when it started since he was home and he got the onions covered for me. I left work thinking the whole snow in April thing was a bit ridiculous!
As I was driving home I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful it was though. The flakes came bigger and faster as I drove. It was like we had a second chance to enjoy winter for a few hours without the worry of it turning to ice and making the roads dangerous, no wondering if it’d be half an inch or enough that they’d call off school at the last minute the next morning. I started thinking of it as more of a holiday rather than a bad trick that Mother Nature was trying to play on us.
You know that kind of quiet that only a snowfall can bring? Where there’s not much wind and any noise outside is muffled by the snow itself? We got just enough snow to bring that quietness with it. I don’t think any of the animals were enjoying it much, but Ed and I stood outside for a bit and just listened. It was the perfect chance to make bowls of steamy clam chowder and curl up on the couch as a family and watch a movie. Definitely a chance for a wintertime flashback 🙂
